Sales development representative resume: what to include and a sample

Updated: September 2026 · Dante Coledas, founder of chooseme

A sales development representative is hired to create pipeline, and the hiring manager reading the resume is estimating two things: whether this person can produce meetings that account executives accept, and how fast they will ramp. The role has the cleanest metrics in sales, everything is recorded by the sequencing tool and the CRM, so a resume without numbers is read as a resume from someone who did not hit them.

The second question is judgment. Any SDR can book meetings that never convert. The resumes that get interviews separate booked from held from accepted, then show what happened downstream: pipeline sourced in dollars and closed revenue attributable to those meetings. This guide covers what carries weight in the reading, the vocabulary SaaS postings filter on, how to write bullets that survive the interview and what a full resume looks like within the sales field.

What matters on a sales development representative resume

The quota and its attainment come first, per period: monthly or quarterly meeting quota, percentage attained, and rank on the team when it is favorable. Underneath that, the qualified pipeline sourced in dollars, the figure that translates activity into something a sales leader can compare against the AE team's numbers. A resume showing 140% of a 15-meeting monthly quota and $4.2M in sourced pipeline answers most of the screen by itself.

Activity metrics are the supporting layer: dials per day, sequences sent, connect rate, reply rate, meeting-to-opportunity conversion. They matter because they show the shape of the motion. Two hundred dials a day for transactional SMB outbound is a different job from forty researched touches into enterprise accounts, and the resume should make clear which one the candidate has run, along with the segment and the average deal size the meetings led to.

The stack and the outbound craft carry the rest. Naming the sequencer (Outreach, Salesloft, Apollo), the CRM (Salesforce, HubSpot), the data and intent tools (ZoomInfo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, 6sense) and the qualification framework (BANT, MEDDIC) tells the reader how little training is needed. Evidence of writing ability, a sequence that beat the team's reply rate or a call script adopted by the floor, is unusually persuasive, since outbound copy is the hardest part of the job to teach.

Keywords job postings look for

Terms that repeat in SDR and BDR postings at software and technology companies:

  • Outbound prospecting and cold calling
  • Sales development representative (SDR) / business development representative (BDR)
  • Meetings booked / sales qualified leads (SQLs)
  • Sourced pipeline and pipeline generation
  • Cold email sequences and cadences
  • Outreach, Salesloft or Apollo
  • Salesforce or HubSpot CRM
  • ZoomInfo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Apollo data
  • Account-based prospecting and target account lists
  • Ideal customer profile (ICP) and buyer personas
  • Discovery and qualification (BANT, MEDDIC)
  • Connect rate and reply rate
  • Objection handling
  • Inbound lead follow-up and speed to lead
  • Intent data (6sense, Bombora)

They belong in the experience bullets tied to a result and again, briefly, in the skills block. Before applying to a specific posting, the tool to tailor a resume to the job lists the terms in the ad that the resume does not use.

Experience bullets that work

Activity becomes evidence when the pipeline it produced is attached:

Made cold calls and sent emails to prospectsRan 85 dials and 120 sequenced emails a day into mid-market manufacturing accounts, holding a 9% connect rate against a 6% team average

Researched target accountsBuilt a 400-account target list from ZoomInfo and 6sense intent data, concentrating outbound on the top 120 and lifting meeting rate per account 2.3x

Booked, held and accepted are three different numbers. An SDR resume that reports all three is trusted immediately; one that reports only "meetings booked" invites the first interview question to be a challenge.

Junior vs. senior

An entry-level SDR resume usually has no sales development history, and the substitute is any record of volume, rejection tolerance and coachability: retail or food service with customer counts and upsell figures, a call center role with conversion data, collegiate athletics, fundraising, a job held through school. Bullets should carry numbers even when the job was not sales, and a short summary should state the segment the candidate is aiming at. Certificates in a sequencer or CRM signal preparation; the first job resume guide covers structuring a page around potential.

A senior SDR or team lead is judged on consistency and influence. The resume needs multi-year attainment rather than one strong quarter, a more complex segment (enterprise accounts, longer research cycles, multi-threaded outreach), and leverage: new hires onboarded, sequences written for the team, territory strategy owned. The strongest signal at this stage is trajectory toward closing, so the promotion path belongs on the page when one exists, since an account executive seat is what most SDR applications are aiming at.

Common mistakes in this role

The problems that cost SDRs interviews for the better programs:

  1. Meetings booked with no quota. "Booked 200 meetings" means nothing without the target, the period and the acceptance rate.
  2. Activity presented as achievement. Dials and emails are inputs. They belong in a bullet only next to connect rate, reply rate or meetings produced.
  3. No downstream number. Sourced pipeline and closed revenue are what a sales leader cares about; leaving them out means competing on volume alone.
  4. The wrong motion for the posting. A high-velocity SMB record applied to an enterprise role, with no mention of research or multi-threading, is screened out on fit rather than quality.
  5. Claiming the team's pipeline. Pod numbers written as personal results collapse in the reference check, which here is a quick Salesforce lookup.
  6. A creative layout. SaaS companies screen through Greenhouse and Lever; a one-column resume template keeps the metrics parseable.

Frequently asked questions

Which metrics belong on an SDR resume?

Meeting quota and attainment per period, meetings booked, held and accepted, sourced pipeline in dollars and, where traceable, closed revenue from those meetings. Dials, connect rate and reply rate support those figures but should not replace them.

How do you write an SDR resume with no sales experience?

By showing volume, resilience and coachability from whatever work exists: customers served per shift, upsell or fundraising results, a call center conversion rate, a job held through a full course load. Numbers from a non-sales job are still numbers, and a summary naming the target segment shows the application is deliberate.

SDR or BDR: does the title matter?

The two are used interchangeably at most US companies, with BDR occasionally reserved for pure outbound. Use the title the posting uses, provided it describes the work honestly, and let the bullets clarify whether the motion was inbound, outbound or both.

How long should an SDR stay before applying to an AE role?

Most companies expect 12 to 24 months of consistent attainment before promoting to closing. A resume aiming at that move should show multi-quarter attainment, sourced pipeline that converted, and any closing-adjacent work such as running discovery or shadowing deals.
